A wavy-rayed lamp mussel (Lampsilis fasciola) reproducing. The females of this rare mollusk attract its only host fish, the smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieu) with lures that imitate darters and leeches, then inoculate the gills of its host with its parasitic larval stage known as glochidia.
