Opal laid its "claim" on me at a very early age with a schoolfriend giving me a tiny piece of "Maleny opal" (Sunshine Coast, Queensland,Australia), leaving me totally mesmerised by its beauty, and it was with my father teaching me the basics of opal cutting and polishing when I had reached the age of 19, that propelled me fully forward into the world of opal ! From that point on it was an expensive and rocky road to developing my individual opal skills and learning the many and varied aspects of opal.But it was from wanting to create a different type of opal jewellery other than that encased in gold/silver etc. that 30 years later led me into working with different mediums which would highlight more of the natural colour play and vibrancy of the opal itself."Opals On Black" Jewellery was created from this desire and my passion for opal."Opals on Black" Jewellery is created by using 100% Natural Australian Opal, sculpturing & marrying it to one of the differing mediums of Black Jade, Gem Grade Black Onyx, black Leadlight Glass or Snowflake Obsidian.This black contrast surround showcases & highlights the opal colours to their full & vivid glory!With the utmost care and attention to detail, each piece is then cut, shaped and polished into a world-class finished item of stunning Opal Jewellery!Bonding of opal to glass is achieved by a unique blending of five different industrial strength compounds giving rise to an incredibly strong, durable and cohesive bonding compound, second to none.It is an intense and lengthy process in the production and completion of each Opal Jewellery piece, but a fulfilling one ! There is enormous pleasure in finishing a jewellery item and launching it "out into the world".
