Books: Despite a few positive steps, no attempt was made to introduce the fundamental legal and institutional reforms necessary to bring an end to serious human rights violations. Tens of thousands of people continued to be detained or imprisoned in violation of their rights to freedom of expression and association, and were at serious risk of torture or ill-treatment. Thousands of people were sentenced to death or executed. Restrictions increased on the cultural and religious rights of the mainly Muslim Uighur community in Xinjiang, where thousands of people have been detained or imprisoned for so-called separatist or terrorist offenses. In Tibet and other ethnic Tibetan areas, freedom of expression and religion continued to be severely restricted. China continued to use the international -war against terrorism- as a pretext for cracking down on peaceful dissent. http://www.amnesty.org/en/china-olympics

I am a Tibetan refugee. My family is from Ngari (in UTsang), father is from a semi farmer & semi nomad family from PuRang & mother side is Nomad from ShungPa. I am one of the approximately 6 millions of Tibetans who desires freedom of Expression, Press, Equality, Identity, Religion, & of course the most important: Human Rights, Just like anyone else.Based on these, I firmly believe that a nation can only better itself. The current state of China is disgraceful & very grim as it is controlled by One Party System that only knows only one way to solve any issues & that is by using Brute Force to oppress those who speak up against any given Chinese Communist Party policies/Rules & regulations.CCP & there are Chinese that say that China is improving Tibet & Tibetan lives. But for us Tibetans, it is not what has happened for last the 50+ years (since 1949, the beginning of the invasion) of Chinese occupation, Not one bit. Instead, for us Tibetans, CCP's policies has impacted us only negatively, the complete opposite of what China is telling the world. For those Chinese who really think that us Barbarian/Uncivilized Tibetans should be thankful then I will say to you that - you have not asked Tibetans what is truly in their heart. The continuous pouring of more & more refugees each year since 1059 into India & neighboring countries & their stories of life & death struggles they have been faced with under Chinese occupation is just the tip of the iceberg. While the Chinese are concerned about their "World image" or their "Olympic image", We Tibetans are struggling for our survival under Chinese brutal occupation. For us Tibetans the repression by Chinese Government is getting worst & worst each day & the Olympic only helped the Chinese Government to carry on the repression silently. The courage shown by Tibetans inside Tibet never ceases to amaze me. Even under such a predicament, every year throughout Tibet, Tibetans protest against Chinese brutal occupation. As can be seen in the past, the CCP's mouthpiece Xinhua among others continues to not cover these news unless when the whole world covers it, only then they unwillingly fcover it. But when they do cover these protest news, they always label it "small group of Tibetan separatist..." or "small group of the Dalai clique have orchestrated..." or "small group of Tibetan nationalist have planned to sabotage China's Olympic..." & on & on.The key thing to notice is CCP's use words: "Small group", as it shoves more lies deeper into the throat of Chinese people & thus creates ethnic rifts between Chinese & Tibetans.Because of such a strong propaganda pushed by CCP, it is difficult for mainlander Chinese & even many Chinese living overseas to even question the Chinese Communist Party of its policies in Tibet & on other subjects.CCP realizes that it cannot always control/regulate opinions of Chinese people through just words, so it goes further by sending its agents to organize & mobilize Chinese communities living overseas by bringing propaganda straight to their cities. While the whole Tibet & its people are under military lock down & several thousands of Tibetans missing, the CCP's mouthpiece Xinhua goes on & labels the world media as "The Western media" & beefs up its propaganda by inciting false nationalistic pride among Chinese & hatred towards anyone who sympathizes with the plight of Tibetan people. But regardless of how difficult & hopeless our situation may appear, time & time again, throughout human history, it has shown that Human desire for freedom & self determination is universal, will never die, & always prevails over the most trying circumstances. Therefore one thing for certain is that Our Just Struggle for Freedom from Chinese brutal occupation will go on until it is realized completely.--A recently released documentary properly titled: Jigdrel (in English: Leaving Fear Behind), shows to the world how Tibetans are living under Chinese rule. Also important to note is that the filmmakers Dhondup Wangchen & Golog Jigme have been arrested & their whereabouts are unknown.--Finally, here is a Chinese who actually sees Tibetans as equal, as Human beings. We thank & salute you for speaking out against repression."First Time I Feel Ashamed to be Han, & Lucky to Not Be a Party Member"Link:http://chinadigitaltimes.net/2008/04/first-time-i-feel-ashamed-to-be-han-and-lucky-to-not-be-a-party-member/
