BNSF Dash 9 5230 leads a westbound stack train through Crest Hill, IL. on the EJ&E Western Sub. This train came off of the BNSF Chillicothe Sub and will take the EJ&E to the BNSF's Eola Yard (in Aurora), where it will get onto the BNSF Chicago and Aurora Subdivisions. Second out is a BN three piece windshield SD60M, with a bigger than usual BNSF patch under the window. On the other side, it still has its "Burlington Northern" lettering under the big BNSF patch.While sitting in the car, filming, I caught a car driving around the fully activated gates. They were equipped with old bells (rings for a bit when they first activate, stops ringing after the little bit, then rings again when they raise to the upper position). The train wasn't too far away either. The patience of some of these drivers never ceases to amaze me.If CN's proposed purchase of the EJ&E is approved by the Surface Transportation Board (which has been receiving extreme opposition and it's anyone's guess as to what will happen), this crossing will become part of a whistle ban. I hate whistle bans!Filmed on September 7th, 2008.

Nov 22, 2008 - You may not know that in most states it's illegal to go around an activated railroad gate, even if there is no train in sight... let alone the danger, and not just to the driver of the car. Putting a train into emergency braking increases the chance of derailment -- which could mean a hazardous material spill, etc. You don't stop at a red traffic light and then blow on through if the cross traffic is not right there. Why is a railroad crossing different? Being patient can save a life.Dave
