Dec 5, 2008 - yes and 4-H, and 15+ year in animal welfare , the conditions were refering to aren't a standard home run type farm it's that small percentage of lo-life's that grow their animals in an almost factory like setting in small cramped cages , like the geese used for for gras. were not talking free range her or , even a decent large scale chicken coop, we talking animals cramped and caged 24/7 for there intire lives.
PaintMaryconley Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - this bill addresses, things like a puppy mill type mentality. seeing animals solely as meat or profit and not taking care of then general health and comfort needs. even if the animal is destined for the dinner table it deserves some dignity while it is alive and it should be always be thanks for it's sacrifice so you may live.
agdiva9 Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - this should not be passed. Period. It's going to KILL farmers.
PaintMaryconley Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - It's not going to effect ANY farmer who is ALREADY, FOLLOWING the anti-cruelty LAW .this will only effect puppymillers, and abusers .
agdiva9 Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - every good farmer has about 3 chickens per cage. it's cutting down the producing by more than half.
PaintMaryconley Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - it depends on the size of the cage .. as long as every chicken has the ability to comfortably stretch out stand up and move around it's big enough. if they are restricted movement it's not.
PaintMaryconley Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - and it's not the ones who keep 3 per cage . it's the ones who keep 5+ in a cage. personally I don't like PETA because their hypocrites but , undercover video doesn't lie . if you see cages with 5+ chicken and chickens with sores and missing feathers . the conditions are questionable. I'll do another with straight facts on the type facilities that are being targeted . cull the badly run farms let sensible people take over.
PaintMaryconley Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - then we get into cage vs free ranging. why even have cages ? fosters farm does well with free rang barns . they had 1 million chickens in 05' and were managing and taking measures to prevent diseases .
thecolorofdirt Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - Whatever asshole. Farmers can go fuck themselves if all they care about is the greed of money. They should find a new profession.
agdiva9 Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - wow, if it wasn't for farmers you wouldn't be ALIVE! I am glad to see the ignorance of people now a days.
thecolorofdirt Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - No you dumb cunt, I buy local and organic/free range. I don't support your bullshit farming practices anyway. Here's a good one for you.WHAT WOULD JESUS VOTE?
agdiva9 Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - in case you didn't realize. Farmers do more than JUST produce food. They provide the clothes on your back, and an ORGANIC farmer produced your ORGANIC/FREE RANGE food. I could give a shit what Jesus would vote.
agdiva9 Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - if the chicken looses its feathers, it just means that is a good producing hen and it's doing it job. The uglier the chicken, the better the producer.
PaintMaryconley Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - Most hens stop producing eggs until after the molt is completed.......The advantage of late molters is that the loss of feathers and their replacement takes place at the same time. This enables the hen to return to full production sooner.... MSU fact sheet. if it's in proccess of molting it's NOT producing period.so ....you lie..
PaintMaryconley Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - to continue:Causes of Poor Feathering. insuffecent diet...... The most common reason that feathers do not develop is a deficiency of a critical protein constituent (amino acid) from the diet of the birds. Methionine is one of only a few amino acids that contain sulfur, A methionine deficient bird will tend to eat feathers in an attempt to satisfy a craving for this amino acid. A bird may even pull them from its own body.
PaintMaryconley Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - birds in the AR vids have this symptiom: .. feathers are missing from the abdominal and vent area, the cause is most likely the presence of external parasites such as the northern fowl mite or poultry lice. Infestations of these pests can be controlled by regular sprayings of an approved pesticide like permethrin to the birds. The house and other structures that the birds frequently visit should also be sprayed. This will ensure the elimination of any pests that can reinfest the birds.
agdiva9 Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - I have judged chickens for almost a year. I can look and hold a chicken and tell you how many eggs she has produced. Molting is a different story when they are a the end of their production stage the feathers start to grow back from when they lost them. I was first place on my judging team which was third in the state, I think I know what I am talking about.like I said before."the uglier he chicken, the better the producer"I have many professors to back me up, the ones that trained me.
scrobrey Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - YES ON 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
phyco07 Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - i agree with free range barns; you can pack a tom mor chickens in them
artsylin Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - it's to easy but the text says you have to let them out to walk around each day
emericanskater2921 Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - It's an easy prop to misunderstand.Prop 2 will triple the price of eggs in California, and we will have to rely on Mexico for more eggs.
co0perm Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - the text doesnt say you have to let them outside. it says if they arent let outside then prop 2 applies. maybe you should actually read it. but they need to make it fair for the californian farmers to compete. so people dont just shop elsewhere. maybe higher taxes on noncalifornian products or they should hold imports to these same standards.
sehrbesessen Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - Any small comfort that can be given these poor defenseless creatures should be. Their lives are so horrible, the only thing more horrible is the fact that there are people who don't care! So what if we have to pay for it? We should! It's our doing, our mess, our fault! Why make them suffer? I just hope other countries & states will follow the example. It is a small thing, but it's something. What's wrong with people?! Arrrrgg!! It's simple, there is no hope for our species if this doesn't pass!
FarmAnimalWelfare Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - Thank you to everyone for supporting California Prop 2. This new legislation proves that people recognize the need for compassion to animals.
jhmecca Says:
Dec 5, 2008 - Have you all ever been to a farm?
