Jan 8, 2009 - No reason to go tilt if you are building new lines anyway. LGV-equivalent in not that much more expensive to build than new standard track and mixed traffic kills line capacity. Tilts can run at some speed on regular lines but the reduced line capacity and lower speeds are big no-no. Tilt is a poor substitute for the real deal(LGV+TGV)

Welwyn22 Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - True. But the tilting mechanism can be decommissioned. Also, why not have slow lines and fast lines? In that case, four tracks. The North-Slow adjacent to the North-Fast and the South-Slow adjacent to the South-Fast... (England uses Down-(Slow/Fast) Northbound and Up-(Slow/Fast) Southbound)That way, any freight and suburban services can be on the slow lines, with the Intercity trains on the Fast Lines.

weedymacweedweed Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - Tilting mechanism adds weight and is complex and prone to malfunctions(here in finland Pendolinos are having regular problems during winter). And if you build proper lines its not needed either. And why not build those fast lines to LGV standard? Yes tilts can run better on regular lines than non-tilt HSR set but if you are going to build new lines not going LGV would be stupid. GB might not be a good example of HSR system. France, Germany and Spain all have dedicated lines for HSR.

MrBillTroop73 Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - Those "ETA"'s are baloney!BART was supposed to run much faster than it does,,,,,BUT IT DOESNT!!!DONT BUY INTO THIS CRAP!!!

4stemcellresearch Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - I don't think California needs a high speed train. These idiots from the National transportation safety board, neglected to see the balance of California's checkbook. LOL, do we have money??Noo we are in debt and this was the most idiotic idea on the ballot.

GameandWatch19 Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - I don't understand. How will high speed trains enable more deportation?

GameandWatch19 Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - Yes, people love their cars, but nobody likes traffic and high gas prices. This is the solution. As for the "environmentalist police," they'll be all for this project because it reduces greenhouse gas emissions in California, and reduces the need to build more roads, which take up a lot more space.

GameandWatch19 Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - I don't see why the US government thinks it's such a great idea to keep spending money on wars and foreign policy when America can barely take care of itself. This country is falling the fuck apart.

GameandWatch19 Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - Maglevs are cool but they are more expensive to build and use up a lot more energy.

GameandWatch19 Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - It's really quite a coincidence that when Bush was elected, gas prices skyrocketed from $1.50 to $4.00. And now that Barack Obama's taking over, gas is going back down to $1.95 per gallon.Has anyone else in Southern CA noticed that you see a lot more Toyota Prius's now and a lot less Hummers?

Furrydandy Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - .. well i dont really agree on that, maglevs are able to give back the energy to the gris when they break .. so energy used to power the the egine while produce energy when it has to power down from the speed .. What it make so expensive. Is the fact that a whole new infrastructure has to set up, while railroad is already existing. Thats the reason europe is more investing in the existing network rather finding investors that are able to build a new infrastructure....

turnoutjim Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - Here in California the Union Pacific and BNSF have already said that they are not going to allow their tracks to be used for the practice of futility. If this is going to happen, then new tracks will have to be laid. But where to lay the new tracks? Best answer will be along the freeways and highways, since they're already owned by the state. Thus creating more of a problem than solution.

turnoutjim Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - Also...since deisel is "bad" for the enviroment, these trains will have to be electrified. The Great leader, Obama has said that if anyone wants to build a new coal power electric plant, that they will be taxed to the gills and he dosen't favor nuclear power plants either. Only thing left is hydroelectric. When was the last time California sanction to have one of those built? Been at least three decades if not more.

DaaYay Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - turnoutjimHigh speed rail was NEVER going to run on BNSF, UP tracks, they can't run trains on those tracks above 80 MPH or less in most areas. They HAVE to build their own tracks and that's part of the innitial cost.BNSF has agreed to work things out on sharing it's ROW with HSR. UP hasn't budged though. Running tracks next to the freeways often run through difficult areas that require major tunneling and elevated terrain wich is expensive. You lay tracks through existing rail corridors.

DaaYay Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - GameandWatch19Pres. Bush is pushing his fathers NWO (New World Order) at the cost of its citizens by seizing control of the Middle East through Military, Stealing their oil, making profits off of it and pushing other countries to Join Nato. They are working on the North American Union (In Secret) in THEIR own interest and not of the people. This is what the war in the Middle East Is all about. These people are putting the country in the toilet and are not looking out for their citizens!

KOOLDAVE1953 Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - Yep...."California...the land of origins...the birthplace of the Yuppie Asshole".

nemesiss01 Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - Development and contruction of one High speed track line are verry expensive. What are the costs of maintenance of that line and of the speed trains ? The high spped trains are not used diesel engine. They are used high voltage electriciy ( 22-25 Kv ).I was see the TGV line in France.

ishallshitonyourface Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - ....Don't forget virgins.

Locomotivesrock Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - That has nothing to do with the video.

Locomotivesrock Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - I'm moving to California if they're building this.(yay)P.S. They've already done this in the Northeast.

Modeltrainguy Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - This should have happened 25 years sooner...The 1 Hour PBS TV Program "NOVA", highlighted that VERY plan to bring Bullet Trains to California:"Tracking The SupertrainsWhile America's passenger-train service deteriorates, trains in Japan and Europe are speeding ahead at over 150 miles per hour. NOVA reports that the super-fast trains are finally coming to America. Original broadcast date: 12/14/82 Topic: technology/engineering"

twisteeR6 Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - I just caught a glimpse of a clip on the news last week about a MagLev from LA to Vegas, would take 89 minutes. Thing is...how the hell is CA going to pay for it if we are 40 billion under already?

SimplyPolitical Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - Will they accept my EZ Pass? LOL!

JustForBrieLarson Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - wow i am gonna be there one day that place looks amazing.oh i could live in that place and i will and that amazes me.i have faith that all will work out just fine.

slammeddown Says:

Jan 8, 2009 - California is so far in dept right now we have no idea how to get out of it. 15 billion in dept and were talking about spending billions more on a high speed train. What are we gonna do right bad checks to pay for it? This is the most fucked up state in the united states and its only gonna get more fucked up in the future. We sure don't need a train coming to Lancaster from Los Angeles anymore. Lancaster has too many unemployed niggers.
